Benjamin’s basketball journey spans over 30 years, beginning with his foundational years at Brixton Topcats under the guidance of the late Jimmy Rogers. His talent and dedication paved the way for an impressive career, including earning three full basketball scholarships while playing in the United States, before embarking on a three-season stint in Italy.
During his time in Detroit, Michigan, Benjamin led his junior college team in both scoring and rebounding, a performance that caught the attention of several prestigious Division 1 universities, including the University of Michigan, University of Florida, Georgetown University, Villanova, and the University of Pittsburgh, to name a few.
As fate would have it, Benjamin found himself at Claflin University in South Carolina, a historically Black College and University (HBCU) competing in NCAA Division II. There, he helped lead the Panthers to historic success, winning back-to-back conference titles with an impressive 24-2 record in his first year and 25-4 in his second. Throughout his playing career in the States, he also competed in summer tournaments with renowned AAU teams like “Common Bond” and the legendary “Team Michigan,” which produced several NBA alumni.
Known as “Coach B Law” in the basketball community, Benjamin was celebrated for his electrifying, athletic, and instinctive style of play. A six-time international slam dunk competition champion, he captivated audiences with his high-flying, show-stopping performances wherever he played.
Reflecting on his career, Benjamin recalls the challenges of his early years: “Coming up, there wasn’t much guidance on skill development, mentoring, or understanding what it truly means to be a professional. I often felt used and unsupported, with little sincere help along the way.”
Now a qualified youth mentor and basketball player developer, Benjamin leverages his wealth of experience to coach and guide anyone eager to learn and improve. Recognizing that the UK still has room for growth in terms of player development compared to other countries, Benjamin invests time studying player development methods from top institutions and shares this knowledge with those he mentors, helping the next generation of athletes reach their full potential.
